The upper foothills of Rutherford County, North Carolina, offer some delightful treasures. From our views of the fabulous Blue Ridge Mountains, to the rolling hills and fields, to the rushing creeks, laden with earth's most precious of metals. Yes, you can pan for gold right here where the first US gold dollar coin was minted, at Bechtler’s Mint, in Rutherfordton, western North Carolina.
Foothill country offers easy living, and modest elevation without the steep property that accompanies our ‘top of the mountain’ brethren, plus quick access to grocery stores and healthcare. Our unique location is protected from harsh weather patterns by the eastern slopes of those majestic mountains. It even has a geographical name: the isothermal belt.
We live in the foothills, and love it here. We don't spend a thought worrying about roads dropping off on one side, so travel is less stressful and more comfortable. As an added benefit, transmissions and brakes in our vehicles last longer. We can stop and smell the flowers a little bit more easily.
With eighteen developments under our belt, we've worked in some pretty high elevations and steep terrain. Did you ever wonder why it is so expensive to buy land up there? One reason is because it costs about four times as much to build roads (even more when blasting through rock is required). Preparing building sites, putting in foundations, installing wells and septic systems are also much more expensive. The upper foothills will give you more bang-for-your-buck.
Another thing we like is that we are surrounded by mountains, and so close that we don't have to think twice if we want to go white water rafting or ski the slopes. Either one is just a short drive away, and if we choose, we can be on the top of Mount Mitchell (the highest point east of the Mississippi) in just over an hour of travel, much of it along the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway.
Give us a call for information, but nothing beats seeing for yourself. It's so beautiful, and waiting for you.
