We can’t vouch for the rest of western North Carolina, but there is a lot of waterfront property in Rutherford County. Much of it spring fed, joining together to create ever larger streams, creeks, and rivers.
Are you wondering what the difference is between a creek and a stream? It is like saying “often”, pronouncing the “t” or not. It depends on where and how you were raised. In this part of the mountains, the water emptying into a river is a named creek, like Cedar Creek, Mountain Creek, Cathey’s Creek, etc. A smaller creek, without a name, will feed into a larger one. One step smaller would be a stream, and the smallest ones we call a branch, which are made up of springs trickling out of the ground. It may or may not be correct, but a lot of people speak about it the same way, so that is how we use it in our property descriptions.
Speaking of property, are you looking for land that has water frontage? We have beautiful parcels of western NC property with large creeks, small creeks, and streams, and it may be exactly what you are looking for! Standing on this rural property is so serene, so quiet, it’s like being a hundred miles from anywhere, but thankfully, you’re only ten minutes from town!
Some of this land is nearly level, with a very gentle grade to the water’s edge, and some property has the perfect slope for basement construction. Rutherford County’s beautiful Cathey’s Creek is one of the larger creeks in this area, about 20 - 30 feet across, and a handful of parcels with frontage are still available. Several lots did sell (quickly!), because it’s one of those “when you see it, you'll know” places.
Come see for yourself. You’ll know right away. It's waiting for you!
